After a good night and a leisurely breakfast, we headed to Avebury to the stone circle. It may not be Stone Henge but is was a quaint little place and the stones had a certain reverence about them. The nice part was being able to walk amongst them and touch these icons of a far away age. Pure magic.
The church was fascinating too. It dated back to Saxon times. Paul thinks that the custodian reverends of these churches must have a huge responsibility to maintain these important historical structures as well as maintaining a church community...quite a responsibility indeed.
After soaking it all in here we made for Lacock, a village Keitha had told me about...amazing little place...like it is locked in a time warp. It has been kept in another age... How wonderful, that the community over the centuries, have looked after it so soooo very well. The only concession to the modern age seems the cars and services. Awesome.
We went onto an old barn where some crafts people were working. A chap was doing some wood turning...made me think of the times I used to watch my talented father at his lathe. Treasured memories.
It's a bank holiday Monday here...and now, at lunchtime we arrived in Bath...goodness me...the crowds are building up and we almost pulled the pin and drove away...but in a final last ditched attempt... we tried one more car park... Bingo..someone smiled upon us from above.
Those above also deemed it necessary to give us a shower as the heavens opened while we were having a bit to eat. After trying to sightsee in the rain...we finally gave in defeated and headed back to the car. Still...what we did manage to see was fairly impressive. We've both been here before. so it was Ok in the scheme of things..not too disappointing.
