No Bordeaux in Bordeaux

Well....our drive down into the wine region was pleasant enough but...unlike Australia, there is no hospitality or tourism really attached.  We saw many many vineyards...in fact as far as the eye could see...vineyards vineyards vineyards...but none open to the public.  Some had tours (well one did ) but it was poorly promoted and there was very little information available anywhere...even the official 'office de tourism'.  What we gleaned in the end was if you were on a bus tour etc.  you may get a look in...or a business could make an 'appointment'...but not on a Sunday anyway...other than that...nothing.
In the end the intrepid Badger did find one sort of like we are used to and we had a nice enough lunch and glass of vino....but it was more of a glorified bottle shop and a vintner school than a winery.  Sorry France but  I think you may be a bit of a dinosaur ...you have serious competition form the southern hemisphere..Australia does it so much better...our wine regions are a delight...just as pretty. Our wineries usually have brilliant restaurants attached and you know what...our wines are probably even better anyway.  We have learned from the best, France,  Italy and Spain... taken the baton and ran off with it from what I've learned here.  You are going to have to lift your game if you want to survive.  It was quite a buzz to see our wines on wine lists all over the UK...even our cheapo quaffers were there...whoopee....Aussie Aussie Aussie....
